”An exellent concert. There is only good to be said about the French soloist Olivier Pons.
He played this demanding concerto, showing great skill, passion and understanding in the style
of the master.I could only admire the use of the bow, its rythmic precision and the mastery of the
special effects of the harmonic double-stops. PONS has a beautifully sounding instrument, giving a
clean and a rich sound. In the first movement Pons played the extensive, demanding cadenza, demonstrating
a wide range of skills.. The performance of the cadenza was nearly perfect….”

” The frenchman Olivier Pons was well up to level of the task. The ingenious visions of the composer
grew, in shaping the forms and themes, into a beautiful unity, through cooperation between the soloist
and orchestra. Pons lets his violin live with a somewhat unaffected charm. His virtuostic glow lasted
throughout the extensive cadenza which ends the first movement. The shorter second movement was relaxing
whereas the Rondo of the last movement was both joyful and spiritual, with Pons diligently following the
orchestration. But Paganini is inventive, he keeps the grip and inspires new thematic ideas which made both
the soloist and orchestra sing through the finale.”

most difficult Paganini violin concerto magnificently and faultlessly, unheard of in Finland before.
Maybe Heimo Haitto* in his best days made Paganini sing in the same manner. As I have, as a young student,
tried to study violin playing, I can but wonder how effortlessly the young frenchman played the fast runs,
spiccato and harmonics. All of them completely in time and spiritually captivating.”

« Splendide interprétation de Paganini »
« …le soliste était le français Olivier PONS et il n’y a que de bonnes choses à dire sur sa prestation. Il est un violoniste doué, virtuose,
son goût est sur et il a joué ce concerto avec un enthousiasme et un style dignes d’un grand maître. Je ne pouvais qu’admirer la précision rythmique de l’archet et
le contrôle des effets de jeu, par exemple les harmoniques. Pons a un instrument qui a une très belle sonorité, à la fois pure et riche. A la fin du premier mouvement, Pons a
joué la grande et difficile cadence dans laquelle le violoniste peut montrer toutes ses capacités. L’exécution de cette cadence fut proche de la perfection…
Pons a joué le final avec une grande vivacité d’esprit comme le demande la partition… »
